Krystle Guthrie

I am from Tahlequah, Oklahoma and am the younger of two children.  I have a nephew named Connor (8) and a niece named Cassidy (5). My mother is a retired teacher, and my father is retired from a dry cleaning business.

In high school I played many sports, including fast-pitch softball, basketball, slow-pitch softball, and competed in cheerleading. I was an All State left fielder my senior year, on a state runner-up softball team, and a state champion cheerleading squad.  I was named the Homecoming Queen/All Sports Queen my senior year, 1994.

I received my bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University in elementary education.  During college, I coached two All Star Cheerleading Squads who competed in San Antonio, Texas in the National Competition.

This is my 9th year teaching. I taught in Texas for 7 years where I have coached basketball, track, and cheerleading.  This is my 2nd year here at Hellstern.  My hobbies include singing, shopping, hanging out with friends, and playing sports.

In March of 2003, I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26.  I completed chemotherapy and radiation treatments while continuing to teach.  The students inspire me to live every day to the fullest.  They are so energetic and full of life!  I have participated in several "Race for the Cures" and in June 2005 completed my first "Breast Cancer 3 Day" walk, which is a 60 mile walk over three days.  I have recently signed up to do the walk again in November 2008.  I try to get involved in organizations that are working towards finding a cure for breast cancer.

I feel that I am very fortunate to have such a great support system.  My friends and family are wonderful and the staff here at Hellstern could not be better.
